It is an interesting time we live in where wars and espionage can be conducted with the usage of computers. A few months ago I wrote a post about the Chinese government supporting groups of hackers who gained intelligence and shut down computer networks in other nations. It appears that these hackers are at it again. A report from the Munk Center for International Studies stated that several networks exist in China where espionage is being conducted. The report stated that they could not prove that the Chinese government was involved. However it is known that the Chinese government is at the very least allowing these hacker groups to prosper. The more likely scenario is that these groups are feeding information to the government. It is a fact that China has one of the most advanced espionage programs in the world because of their advanced use of satellites to break into intelligence networks around the globe. Many of the computers that the Chinese hackers infiltrated were located at ministries of foreign affairs, embassies, international organizations, news media and Non Governmental organizations.
In fairness to the Chinese government, the report stated that attributing all of the hacking infiltration to the Chinese government would be incorrect. The report stated, “China is presently the world’s largest Internet population. The sheer number of young digital natives online can more than account for the increase in Chinese malware.”
Do you think that there is a connection here with the Chinese government? As stated earlier, a report I read a few months ago stated that the Chinese government was at the very least openly allowing hacking groups to prosper unchecked in the country.
