What is the United States to do with Iran? Iran continues to defy United States and UN orders to halt uranium enrichment. The time is coming when the United States will need to make some sort of productive move with this matter. It appears that over the past year, we have made absolutely no progress with Iran. We have threatened and imposed sanctions and it has yielded absolutely no cooperation. Obama has stated that he is open to negotiations but this has yet to happen.
Should the United States bomb Iranian nuclear facilities if this noncompliance continues? It is obvious that we have the capabilities to carry out such an attack. However I have to ask, what would the ramifications be if we bombed Iran? Do we really need to create another enemy? Granted Iran would not be able to respond with air attacks at the present moment. However such an attack would send their efforts to procure weapons to new levels. If they ever did procure weapons you can bet that the US would be their first target if we bombed their facilities now. However one may also look at the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan never retaliated to the United States for these attacks. Granted bombing Iran’s nuclear facilities would be much different because we would not be targeting civilians. However my point was simply that we could bomb the facilities and we might not create a permanent enemy with a vendetta in the process.
