Yesterday a United States drone was utilized to kill 12 militants in Pakistan. The use of drones to carry out attacks has been more common in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan than any other time in the past. Though none of the militants were named, Pakistani officials stated that among the dead were “foreigners.” When Pakistani officials say foreigners, they mean members of Al-Qaeda.
How do you think we have done in fighting the war on terror so far? Some people state that we have made little progress in the regions in the Middle East that we have occupied. However I would argue that great progress has been made since there have been no more terrorist attacks in or nation. This most recent attack on suspected Al-Qaeda members should give us all hope that this radical group is being attacked and neutralized.
As stated earlier, I believe we have done a great job of neutralizing terrorist and extremist threats in the Middle East. However I want to know what the readers think about Afghanistan. What needs to be accomplished in Afghanistan in order to bring our troops home. Can we really hope to eradicate all potential threats in the region? What is the best case scenario of our involvement in Afghanistan? By contrast, what is the worst case scenario? Should we be sending more troops to occupy the region?
My personal opinion is that the President has done an excellent job in sending more troops to Afghanistan. We should all take comfort in the fact that terrorist groups are being found and neutralized.
