Yesterday I discussed the blossoming relationship between China and Venezuela. I have to admit that the thought of these two nations teaming up doesn’t exactly inspire me. Let’s face it, both countries are opposed to capitalism. Chavez stated that China is the only reason we are being propelled in this crisis of “international capitalism.” I will admit that capitalism got us into the mess that we are in now. However it also afforded the world with the consistent economic growth that has been steady over the past several decades. Without capitalism, there would be no money to lose, as industry would already be suffering.
So lets discuss the dangers of a relationship between China and Chavez. Before that, I have to say I don’t support the US trade agreement with Chavez. I am all for capitalism and getting the best prices but I think we should be weary of our support for Hugo Chavez. If we aren’t careful he will build an even larger empire. The more money he makes, the more power he will wield.
Back to the issue at hand – are two communist nations grouped together worse than one? I would say most definitely. The last thing we need is a growing sentiment among the nations of this world that capitalism is dead. We need to ensure that nations realize that capitalism is the force that has driven the global economy. To abandon it now would be to abandon something great.
Chavez stated, “The power of the US empire is at an end . . . and by contrast other poles of global power are emerging, Beijing, Tokyo, Tehran.”
