How would you rate President Obama’s diplomatic skills? I have to admit that I think thus far he has done a good job of shaking things up. With my most recent post I wrote that Obama might re open trade with Cuba. However Obama is open to many other advancements that past Presidents have ruled out. For instance Obama is open to discussing issues with middle east leaders. In the past we have traditionally isolated these people. This fresh new wind of diplomacy could be just what we need. Conversely, everything could turn out to blow up in his face. I have stated before that I don’t necessarily agree with Obama’s nuclear disarmament plan. I think that we should temporarily taper of military spending but not strive to eliminate nuclear arsenals altogether. However playing devil’s advocate, it could serve to help the world become a safer place. In theory, it is a brilliant plan. For years critics of the US have stated, “how can you patrol nuclear arms when you carry them yourselves.” Our reply has always been an emphatic, “We are America, we will do what we want!” For this reason we have developed a few adversaries around the globe as well as a general distaste for Americans overseas. I am not saying that we had an improper plan in the past by patrolling nuclear arsenals. Rather I am saying it could work out to get rid of our own in a dramatic example for the rest of the world to follow.
There you have it – that is my opinion of what Obama has done so far. Now to the more important question: do you think he has done a good job with our country? What could he be doing better? Is our military in capable hands with Obama?
