As I have discussed recently, cyber attacks and cyber espionage have become a formidable problem for our military. Having realized this, the US military is now creating a command team in an effort to counteract these cyber attacks. Recently there has been a breach of the United States electricity grid as well as a military jet program. The unnamed military official who spoke on the new cyber program stated that more funds would be necessary in order to create the program. I am all for military cuts but when we need advancement and defensive measures, shelling out a few bucks might be worth it. Allowing hackers to infiltrate military networks and sabotage them or gain information is simply out of the question. It could lead to a myriad of problems that this country simply cant handle right now. My opinion is that this security council is long overdue. China has been developing capabilities for the past several years which allow them to use advanced satellite technology to infiltrate US governmental networks. If we lose classified intelligence to China or other nations it will cause us to lose our military edge. In my opinion, counteracting this measure is one of the most important projects the military can undertake right now.
What do you think about the new cyber council? Is it a necessary addition to the military right now? Can we justify creating new programs and jobs and spending more money in the military right now? What measures could be taken to cut costs so that this program can be afforded?
