Obama believes that he is capable of helping develop a Palestinian state within his first year of office. Do you think he can accomplish this? I think that if he could develop this, it could serve to alleviate much of the tension that exists in the Middle East. The United States has traditionally favored Israel but perhaps helping Palestinians will serve to mediate this conflict once and for all. Do you believe that we should strive for a Palestinian state?
I am beginning to feel as though Obama might be biting off more than he can chew. After all, the conflict in this region of the Middle East goes back thousands of years. Can it really be resolved by one man in his first year of leadership? On the other hand if Obama could help to develop a Palestinian state, a people group who have always strived to have a voice and a home of their own would finally be appeased and satisfied. While this is a long shot, if Obama could pull it off it would really help our ties in the Middle East. One thing is for certain, Obama is shaking things up. Traditionally no US President would have advocated for a Palestinian state. But perhaps it is what needs to be done in order to finally assimilate peace in the region.
Could this plan for a Palestinian state ever succeed? What Obstacles lie in Obama’s way of accomplishing this goal? Lastly, do you think it is a good idea?
