The President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stated that he will not speak with any governmental leaders about Tehran’s nuclear powers. However he did clarify that he would be willing to discuss these issues with Obama. He stated, “We have said this before and we are saying it right now, that we will not talk about the nuclear issue with those outside the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency). He continued to state that no one outside the IAEA has a right to speak about Iran’s nuclear issues. Interestingly, President Ahmadinejad will be running for re election in the coming months. The President stated that outside of the IAEA he is open to talks about “bringing peace to the world.”
Why is the President of Iran only open to speaking with President Obama? It is because Obama has from the beginning stated that he is interested in holding talks with Iran. This is something that previous presidents have failed to do. Obama has validated Iran as a nation which in turn will allow for more cooperation and increased communication between the two countries. My hope is that Obama utilizes excellent diplomacy in order to strike a deal which will encompass Iran relinquishing nuclear facilities. I don’t believe that there is anyone out there who would suggest that a nuclear Iran is a safe idea. We must find a way to rid Iran of nuclear weapons before the nation develops their capabilities further.
