Could there soon be a change of leadership in North Korea? I have to say that the very idea is most intriguing and exciting. For years I have watched Kim Jong-Il destroy his nation and make enemies with most of the industrialized world. Now it seems as though his reign could be coming to an end. Reports from a South Korean newspaper on Friday stated that Kim Jong-Il is growing sicker and has recently brought in loads of medical equipment for his personal use from China. North Korea is also making arrangements to get an emergency transport helicopter for Kim in the event that there is necessity for rapid medical attention. Most experts believe that Kim had a stroke in last August but no one knows for sure.
Regardless of whether or not Kim had a stroke, it appears that his health is failing him now. What does that mean for relations with the United States and the rest of the world? Personally I think that it can only be a good thing. Kim has done little to cooperate with global powers during his reign. I believe that a fresh new leadership will afford the United States and UN the ability to make new negotiations and improve the relationship between the entities. Somehow we need to improve ties with North Korea before they become even more dangerous. If there was a regime change, that could give us just the right opportunity to rectify this increasingly dangerous situation.
