The People’s Take on Iraq

Written by USPatriot

It seems like there are an inordinate amount of people who are dissatisfied with President Bush and the way he has conducted the war in Iraq. When we first entered the war on terror, the country was freshly shaken, and we were ready to ban together to become freedom fighters. Everyone in the country, including Hilary Clinton, was in favor of a war against terror. However as time has marched on, President Bush’s approval rating has steadily plummeted. This is obviously directly correlated with the war in Iraq. I am trying to figure out where everyone has drawn the line between support of the war and protesting against it. When we first went to war to find terrorists, almost everyone in this country was in favor of such an effort. Now suddenly, people in favor of the war are an endangered species.

I believe that the reason for everyone’s fickle mindedness has to do not with the reasons we are in Iraq but rather how long we have been there. People feel as though nothing has been accomplished in our time in Iraq. However, we have begun to set up a democracy for a people who would have never known one otherwise. We have stepped in to help an oppressed people group find democracy and freedom. After the terror attacks, everyone in American wanted their neighboring nations to be free from terrorists and free from oppression. Now that that September 11th is history and since we have been in Iraq so long, the supporters of the war have grown impatient and withdrawn their support from president Bush. However I would like to remind everyone that when we launched the war on terror, the President was fully supported by a nation who was consumed with doing the right thing. Now a few years have passed on and everyone is ready to take the easy way out. People argue that we have spent billions in Iraq and that this is a catastrophe in itself. It would be if we had a smaller government but the united states government is the most well funded entity the world have ever seen. All I know is that people used to support this war effort and that people used to believe it was the right thing. What happened?
