On Tuesday the Pentagon announced that the United States might sell missiles to India. The missiles in question are harpoon air to ground anti-ship missiles. This deal would net the United States 170 million dollars. Boeing would manufacture the missiles for India if this deal goes through. I must admit that when first learning of this, I was slightly shocked that we would sell weapons to India. I don’t know why but it has always been an odd concept that the United States is the number one worldwide arms dealer. Surely if we stopped selling weapons to other nations, someone » Read More

The Nuclear Trade Embargo over India has been lifted after 34 years. The foreign spokesperson for China said that they have always maintained a position that every nation deserves to have nuclear energy. I must admit that I believe those words to be foolish. Lets look at this objectively. Why must every nation have nuclear energy? Do the comments made by China indicate that they would allow unstable nations such as Iran and North Korea to have nuclear facilities? Surely they can’t honestly believe that to be in the best interests of the global community. If Iran or North Korea » Read More

Troops in Afghanistan fought off native insurgents so that they could delver a turbine to the countries largest power station. A total of 4000 troops were brought to deliver the turbine and fight off the insurgents. With this mission going well, it looks as though there is hope for this power station. In the future, with this third turbine, the power station will be able to generate an additional 18.5 megawatts of renewable energy. This is a great step in ensuring a free and secured Afghanistan. To help this country, it is essential that they be not only freed of » Read More

On Wednesday Bulgaria began construction of their 5.8 billion dollar nuclear plant. Russia is constructing the plants two atomic reactors. The Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev said, “Nuclear energy and the development of Belene will guarantee the country’s autonomy in terms of energy supplies”
Is it just me or is there an increasingly popular trend to build nuclear power facilities? I am all for innovation and the alternative fuel that nuclear facilities provide but how can we guarantee that the new Bulgarian facility will not begin developing weapons grade uranium? Are there any steps that we can take to ensure that » Read More

A Russian company is now scheduled to begin work building a nuclear facility for Iran on the Gulf coast at Bushehr. Originally plans had been halted because Iran had agreed to give up their nuclear program for economic aid. However with Iran deciding to throw caution to the wind, plans have resumed for Russia to complete that project. I must admit that I am somewhat shocked that Russia has agreed to complete such an endeavor when they are a member of the UN Security Council. The UN is blatantly opposed to any sort of Iranian nuclear facility yet one of » Read More

South Korea has joined forces with the rest of the parties involved in the nuclear treaty in an attempt to convince North Korea to restart the disablement of their nuclear plants. If you remember, North Korea had stopped disabling their nuclear facilities and had discussed enabling said facilities because the United States had not yet taken them off of a blacklist which forfeited their right to receive United States economic aid. North Korea argued that they should be receiving aid because they were in the process of disabling their facilities. The United States was not ready to give aid yet » Read More

North Korea has now stated that they have ceased the denuclearization process since August 14. Furthermore they are planning to reactivate their nuclear plants that were supposed to be disarmed as a result of a six-nation treaty involving the Untied States. The North Korean government has authorized such actions because they believe that the United States has not fulfilled their end of the agreement. According to the treaty, the US was to supply North Korea with Economic aid in exchange for their denuclearization. However the United States has not yet given that aid because North Korea will not allow in » Read More

Obama commented on Monday that new sanctions are necessary for Iran so that Israel will not be placed in a position of danger. Iran has repeatedly threatened to attack Israel with nuclear weapons. In several news clips, the President of Iran can be seen stating that he wishes to wipe Israel off the map.
As the most powerful country in the world, do we have a duty to defend Israel from villains such as Iran? True these tensions between Israel and the middle east run deep but we can’t sit back idly and let Iran make open threats toward our ally » Read More

The Russian Army is now accusing the United States and several NATO countries of establishing military presence in Georgia under the guise of humanitarian aid. He said that ships from the United States as well as Spain and Germany are occupying the region while pretending to distribute aid to Georgia. The premise for his accusations comes from the large grouping of NATO ships that have been passing through the region for naval exercises. “Under the cover of needing to deliver humanitarian goods, NATO countries continue to boost their naval grouping,” The Russian General commented. Before continuing on, do you believe » Read More

According to the Iran bank Chief of Bank Mellat, the US financial sanctions are not proving to be effective. The bank Chief stated that there was a perceived problem because of the US sanction. However he continued and said, “in practice there was no halt to our operations.”
The Iranian bank commented that they are still doing business with a number of international banks including but not limited to Asian, African, and European banks.
With this information, I can’t help but ask the question – just how effective are US financial sanctions on Iran? There is the distinct possibility that the bank » Read More
