Progress Made in Polish and US Missile Deal

It appears that the United States and Poland are finally making headway in their agreement about a missile shield that would be based in Poland. The Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said after his meeting with the US Assistant Secretary of State that the meeting was a success while stating that both Poland and the US have come to a closer agreement about the missile shield. In the past, Poland has been weary of the agreement about the missile shield because they wanted assurance of extra security from the United States. Thus far the project for a missile shield in Poland » Read More

Iran uncertain of Nuclear Offer

Whitehouse officers commented that they believe Iran will likely reject their offers for US incentives in exchange for remission of their nuclear program. They continued to discuss the fact that Tehran might now face new harsher sanctions if they do reject the US offers to end the nuclear program. Dana Perino, white house spokesperson commented that all the US members of the UN as well as the German members of the UN are in favor of immediate suspension of uranium enrichment by Iran. She continued to call the US incentive package, “very generous.” She concluded by saying that it was » Read More

US Outpost in Iran

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Friday that Iran might be willing to let the US establish a US interests section in Iran and also allow US air traffic into Iran. He continued by stating that he thought the talks this weekend in Geneva would be successful on both ends of the spectrum. The proposed outpost in Iran is similar to the arrangement that we currently have with Cuba. In certain situations, students, businesspeople, academic researchers, and artists would be able to visit Iran on a temporary basis. Such progress is monumental in the relationship the US has with Iran. » Read More

US present at Iran nuclear meeting

Iran is pleased that the United States will be present at their meeting to discuss nuclear activity this weekend. Iran has said that the weekend discussions are supposed to help diffuse the tension between Iran and the global community. Iran also stated that they hope to have positive developments this weekend. Iran Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said that the American presence in Geneva for the meeting would, “help the United States be informed directly.”
From these comments I can’t help but wonder whether Iran is actually going to give up their nuclear program. They have openly stated that they want an » Read More

Bush on Iraq timetable

President Bush has yet again stated that he will not withdrawal troops from Iraq unless there is circumstantial evidence to support such a decision. His words are in response to popular democratic demands for a withdrawal timetable for troops to be permanently out of Iraq. What do you believe the president should do about the war in Iraq? It is evident that he is certainly facing some harsh criticisms from colleagues and the press about his handling of the war in Iraq. Do you believe that the president has done anything right with the war on terror? Honestly I think » Read More

Russia plans to Neutralize US Threat

Russia has stated that they are planning to “neutralize” any threat from the United States towards their nuclear deterrent. This is in response to the United States plans to place a missile shield in the Czech Republic and Poland. Since the US has announced their plans for this missile shield, Russia has been wary of US motives. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak said that Russia would have to neutralize any threats to Russia’s nuclear deterrent system. When looking back on the history between the United States and Russia, it is easy to understand why the Russians might be opposed » Read More

Diplomacy to Handle Iran

Whitehouse spokesperson Dana Perino has announced that the United States will continue to pursue the path of diplomacy with Iran. I would like to know what those of you who are involved in the US Military think about the issues with Iran. Can the United States really afford to get involved in another costly war? Granted their official position is that of diplomacy but what if diplomacy fails?
To continue with Perino’s recent announcement, she said, “I would just characterize it as continued Iranian defiance of international obligations and further isolating its people, but I don’t think that we are anywhere » Read More

US Plans to Defend Israel

Yesterday I went on the record stating that it was foolish for Iran to openly threaten Israel when the United States would take protective action over our ally. In conjunction with my prediction, the Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice stated, “We will defend American interests and the interests of our allies.” She continued saying that the US has been increasing its presence in the Gulf and would utilize force if necessary to defend Israel and other American allies.
Every day that this standoff continues is something of a surprise to me. Continual threats as well as offers of aid are pouring » Read More

Obama’s Plans for Iran

Barack Obama began Wednesday by saying that he believes aggressive diplomacy must be utilized when dealing with Iran. He also noted that economic sanctions would help put the pressure on Iran. His words were in response to the test missile that Tehran launched earlier Wednesday. Iran said that this test missile is capable of reaching Israel. My question to you is this: Is aggressive diplomacy really enough to resolve issues with a rogue nation bent on attaining nuclear weapons? At what point should the United States step in to aid Israel and the interests of the US by utilizing physical » Read More

Iran responds to peace offer

This Tuesday Iran issued a written response to the French foreign ministry that purposely avoided saying anything about halting uranium enrichment. At this point, all I can think about is why the Iranians are pursuing this openly on the world stage with such vigilance. In my mind, I can’t understand who would pursue a weapons program in spite of orders and offers of peace from the most powerful nations in the world.
Are the Iranians simply trying to buy time at this point? I would like to know what the readers of this blog feel about that question. In my research » Read More
