Originally the United States had ordained that Iran must give an answer about their nuclear program by this Saturday. However in a press conference with State Department spokesman Sean McCormack, he said that the deadline “is coming soon.” He did not enforce that deadline as Saturday but rather an undisclosed date in the near future.
A few weeks ago, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met with the leaders of Iran and told them that there would be repercussions for any failure to come up with an answer by the end of the two-week allotted time frame.
Furthermore, McCormack stated that the United » Read More

Libya is now showing interest in building a nuclear power station utilizing materials from Russia. The power station will serve to generate electricity for the nation. In the same deal, Libya will also be buying over 2 billion dollars worth of missiles and other weapons from the Russian defense ministry.
What is your reaction to this new deal? I must admit that I am weary whenever any nation wants to build nuclear power plants because those facilities can so easily be utilized for the production of nuclear weapons. Could this deal be in an effort to get nuclear weapons for Libya? » Read More

Yesterday I discussed the Prompt Global strike initiative and I must admit that I was somewhat biased in my opinions. I spent the majority of my post stating reasons we should be cautious against such a development. However today I will attempt to list all the positive implications associated with this new US endeavor.
In my mind, it is a fact that one way to maintain power is simply to appear strong and capable. If the United States continues pursuing military improvements such as the Prompt Global Strike Initiative, then they will inevitably appear strong and collected to the global community. » Read More

Recently I discussed the United States proposed missile shield, which would house 10 interceptor missiles in Poland. The purpose of this shield is to protect the United States and their allies from rogue or unstable nations such as Iran. We have made great headway in this agreement so far. The government of Poland is coming around to the idea while the secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, has already made an agreement with the Check Republic about the missile system. The Check Republic will house our radar system that will be used to detect any missiles or other weapons that could » Read More

On Monday a prominent Russian newspaper reported that a high-ranking government officer said that Russia would house nuclear weapons in Cuba to retaliate against the US missile shield in Poland. First and foremost, lets take this for what its worth. This is not an official statement from the Russian government. Theoretically, this could be made up. However there is a strong likelihood that this information is in fact fully factual.
United States Air Force General Norton Schwartz responded on Tuesday to the claims made by the Russian newspaper. He said that if Russia did such a thing, they would cross a » Read More

On Wednesday North Korea stated that they would follow through with the agreement to discontinue their nuclear program. In the same breath they stated that the United States needs to abandon its “hostile policy.” The comments were made at a meeting between the foreign ministers of various countries. I don’t know what you are thinking at this point, but I for one am feeling incredibly relieved to hear that North Korea will be giving up their nuclear program. The leader of North Korea has always been unstable and the idea of that nation having weapons of mass destruction has been » Read More

It appears that the United States and Poland are finally making headway in their agreement about a missile shield that would be based in Poland. The Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said after his meeting with the US Assistant Secretary of State that the meeting was a success while stating that both Poland and the US have come to a closer agreement about the missile shield. In the past, Poland has been weary of the agreement about the missile shield because they wanted assurance of extra security from the United States. Thus far the project for a missile shield in Poland » Read More

Whitehouse officers commented that they believe Iran will likely reject their offers for US incentives in exchange for remission of their nuclear program. They continued to discuss the fact that Tehran might now face new harsher sanctions if they do reject the US offers to end the nuclear program. Dana Perino, white house spokesperson commented that all the US members of the UN as well as the German members of the UN are in favor of immediate suspension of uranium enrichment by Iran. She continued to call the US incentive package, “very generous.” She concluded by saying that it was » Read More

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Friday that Iran might be willing to let the US establish a US interests section in Iran and also allow US air traffic into Iran. He continued by stating that he thought the talks this weekend in Geneva would be successful on both ends of the spectrum. The proposed outpost in Iran is similar to the arrangement that we currently have with Cuba. In certain situations, students, businesspeople, academic researchers, and artists would be able to visit Iran on a temporary basis. Such progress is monumental in the relationship the US has with Iran. » Read More

Iran is pleased that the United States will be present at their meeting to discuss nuclear activity this weekend. Iran has said that the weekend discussions are supposed to help diffuse the tension between Iran and the global community. Iran also stated that they hope to have positive developments this weekend. Iran Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said that the American presence in Geneva for the meeting would, “help the United States be informed directly.”
From these comments I can’t help but wonder whether Iran is actually going to give up their nuclear program. They have openly stated that they want an » Read More
