Default Are thongs/flip-flops a trip hazard

Do thongs commonly known as flip-flops pose a greater risk of tripping than normal shoes? There are reports that they do. However the slip-on backless shoes can fall away from the foot as you walk and could hang on an object, which could also be hazardous. The last and most hazardous of all is the spiked heel, one wrong turn and it's over.

What are your thoughts?

I've twisted my ankle more times than I care to remember on flip flops AND sandals that fully surround my foot and get buckled on. But I guess I'm a slave to vanity as I won't stop wearing them!

My kids are not allowed to wear them for driver's ed. I can see that.

Flip flops are made for comfort, and they are, but alot of employers find them to be a hazord. If you work with kids you should have closed toe shoes because if something happens to a child you can't afford to fall/trip on your flip flops, it could make a difference in saving a child's life. When I'm at school we have to wear steel toe shoes because we work in the kitchen with knives. Flip flops are awesome, if you wear them at the proper time and place

Your right Chef Girl! Flip flops are comfortable, it's like wearing no shoes at all basically. However, I seen a news report back in July and they were interveiwing a foot doctor and he stated that flip flops were not good for the feet at all. I can't recall his exact words now but I know he expressed a great concern for anyone who wore them. Especially on a daily basis.

I love flip-flops I'm from the country...where most people don't wear any shoes. I wear flip-flops daily. I'm sure ya'll have seen television shows with monks and others at monistary type places that don't wear shoes unless absolutely necessary they seem fine and the statistics show that asian people...who really don't like shoes, have the longest healthiest lives. What do their doctors say about it?
