US Boeing vs Foreign AirBus

Why would this country and the US Airforce, hire a European Company for a a $35 billion contract to build airborne refueling planes, delivering a major blow to Boeing Co.???
There is something very wrong with this picture!!!!

it WAS a big surprise that Boeing didn't get it - the Northrop Grumman and EADS deal promised only half the jobs in America that Boeing did (with the award of the project), but apparently Boeing wasn't even close when it came to the overall price issue. They tell us we (the American taxpayer) are getting more bang for our buck - a better value - with this deal over the boeing deal. But it makes me wonder if we are just getting what we are paying for...
