Default Spec ops contract.

i am 18 years old and just recently visited MEPS and p***ed my physical and asvab. my scores qualified me for NAVY SWCC but i did not sign or get sworn in because i would like to find out some additional information first. i have been told by my recruiter that it is not possible to be guarenteed a special ops contract right away. and that i would have to chose a new job first and then p*** the physical screening test to get a SWCC contract. i have heard otherwise from several different navy forums and would just like to know if someone could answer my question. can i be guarenteed a spec ops contract first with out picking another job?

Ok here is the deal from an Army Recruiter. You CAN enlist in the US Army as an 18X...which is a Special Forces candidate. As with the Navy, there would be a special physical you would need to p*** for the Army. The Army recruiter would also need to see your ASVAB scores and see how they convert over to our branch. So, the short version is YES you can...but there are several pre-reqs that you would need to fullfill first in order to get an Army Special Forces job when you first enlist. Most people we enlist do not come right in as an 18X...usually they come in as 11B (Infantry) and convert to SF later on.

Anything else, let me know.

I am not sure about the Navy. With them you MAY Have to pick a "regular" job first for the purposes of enlistment. And once you are IN the Navy, you may be able to apply for Spec Ops. The only 100% answer I can give is that the Army DOES allow for people enlist as 18X....Special Forces right from the very beginning. If you are being told you need to pick a job first (for the Navy) from the Counselor at MEPS, it's probably true.

Default U.S. Navy here

I had the same option given to me when I took the ASVAB. I could have been a SWCC. What the recruiter is doing is trying to protect you, really. You CAN sign on as SWCC right out of the gate before you go to basic, but it is a VERY VERY VERY bad idea. Why? Because the tryout to see if you are cut out for it (and dont just ***ume you are) is during basic training itself. If you turn out to not be cut out for it, you will go into the Fleet as an undesignated seaman, which is the worst job on the face of this earch. Want to chip paint off the side of an entire aircraft carrier? How about doing it again a week after because your LPO said it wasn't good enough? Now, however, if you sign up for a job before going to basic, you can STILL take the spec ops tryout, and if you p***, you drop your job you signed on for and become a SWCC. If you dont, though, you continue on and do the job you originally signed on for. Make sense?
