i need help and info please

At the beginning of last week I e-mailed the recruiter for Orlando FL to get a meeting with him. He never replied to me at all. I then contacted the Tampa office which was very nice and gave me a swift reply (albeit one that said I needed to talk with Orlando due to my location).

I sat around and waited a few more days and then decided to just call the Orlando office and set up a time to come in. However, the recruiter there was simply rude unprofessional and unwilling to answer questions. He really made it seem as if I was bothering him from the moment he picked up the phone. I have a very small tattoo on the bottom part of my neck behind my head, he told me it disqualified me. When I asked if I got it removed would that be ok and he told me not to bother.

First off is it true that I shouldn’t bother? If so why is this? I can understand that you may not want tattoos visible even if they are very faded out from laser treatment and such, but there are many ways of removing tattoos. Things like dermabrasion, excision, or even acid treatments are fully capable of fully removing tattoos. They do have the risk of leaving some form of scar though. Does the coast guard not hire people because they have scars (not in the shape of anything specific like a tattoo)?

I’m honestly willing to do whatever it takes. This is my dream, and I finally find myself in a position to do something about it and I’m not going to let something as simple as a 1 inch piece of skin, or a recruiter who was having a bad day stand in my way. And I would hope that this great country would want someone in their armed forces who IS willing to do whatever it takes to serve.

Also are there any other things not listed on the coast guard website that would disqualify me from being eligible. If I could possibly get a list of those things before I take action to remove my tattoo I would greatly appreciate it.

Honestly I beleive you just got a BAD recruiter!! I have 7 different tattoo's ( leg and arms, wrist ) and my recruiter just wanted to know what they meant and if they were gang related and that was it. Never anything else about them!! I would just walk into another local recruiting office man!!
