Hi, I have a four year college degree and qualify for OCS in the national guard. However, if I enlist I receive $40K in bonus ($20K in cash and $20K student loan repayment). If I go in as an officer, i only get $10K. Does it make sense to enlist, get the bonus, and go to OCS later? Or will I regret not going to OCS immediately?
Thanks. |

Well everyone here feels this is something you'd really really have to decide on your own, in your own heart - there are pros and cons to each side of the issue. You have wonderful possibilities for your life with your education, but that money would be really hard to p*** up. We hope you make whatever decision will be best for you and we wish you good luck!
ps: let us know what you decide! Good Luck!

To be honest I came in with my AA degree. I was going to wait to finish school then come in OCS but I decided not to. My intentions were like yours. Come in now go OCS later. I found out I love the Army and I love being a Leader of soldiers. I got my Masters now and still have not gone OCS. I rather make less money and do what I love then take the quick cash. So honestly if you want to be an officer dont worry about the money. To behonest with you the bonus tax is almost like the lottery. So that 20k you are looking at you will only get about 8 upfront then the rest spread out in your contract. Take the OCS man. Its only part time only.
