Re-enlisting Not Possible Due to Age
My younger sister used to be in the Coast Guard, and was for quite a while. She served in a lot of interesting places throughout the US including Hawaii and Alaska. She has alot of funny stories and enjoyed her time in the service. She made lifelong friends there.
She, along with many others, tried re-enlisting after 9/11. She went through 3 different recruiting offices for information, and even as badly as the service (all branches) needs and wants people, she could not re-join. The problem? She had turned the age of rejection less than 6 weeks prior to 9/11. That close and they would not take her.
She is not overweight and very fit, has higher education, several offerable skills, no criminal or civil actions or liabilities, and so on. Nope - she was too old.
What a shame! I know this happens in all the branches of the military. I would hope our country's military would be able to give ***essment on an individual basis or many valuable potential members will fall through the cracks. We need to take advantage of what these people have to offer our country!
