Major duties. The aircraft power plant repairer supervises, inspects and performs aviation unit, intermediate and depot maintenance on aircraft turbine engines and components.
(1) Skill Level 1. Removes, replaces, services, prepares, preserves, cleans and stores engine assembles or components. Disassembles, repairs, resembles, adjusts, diagnostically tests turbine engine systems, subsystems and components according to directives. Assists in troubleshooting engines and rigging engine controls. Performs limited maintenance operational checks. Uses and performs user maintenance on common and special tools. Requisitions and maintains shop and bench stock for repair of aircraft engines. Prepares request for turn-ins and repair parts and engine components. Prepares forms and records related to skill.
(2) Skill Level 2. Performs duties of pervious skill level and provides technical guidance to subordinate personnel. Diagnoses and troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft engines and their components. Participates in maintenance test flights as required.

(3) Skill Level 3. Supervises and provides technical guidance to subordinate personnel performing aircraft powerplant maintenance. Evaluates maintenance operations and facilities for compliance with directives, technical manuals, work standards, safety procedures and operational policies. Performs maintenance trend analysis and applies production control, quality control and other maintenance management principles and procedures to aircraft engine maintenance and shop operations. Instructs personnel and conducts technical training in aircraft engine system maintenance, supply and safety techniques. Evaluates the technical training program. Monitors requisition of parts, tools, and supplies.
Physical demands rating and qualifications for initial award of MOS. Aircraft powerplant repairers (MOS 68B) must be in grade specialist (E4) (non-promotable) or below unless they have held a CMF 15 MOS for a minimum of 12 months at skill level I or 2, 18 months at skill level 3 or 24 months at skill level 4. Waivers and/or exceptions must be approved by Cdr, USAAVNC, ATTN: ATZO AP, Ft Rucker, AL 36363-5000.
Aircraft powerplant repairers must possess the following ad ditional qualifications:
(a) A physical demands rating of very heavy.
(b) A physical profile of 222222.
(c) Normal color vision.
(d) A minimum score of 105 in aptitude area MM.
(e) Formal training (completion of a resident MOS 68B course conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army Aviation School) mandatory or meet the ACASP criteria listed in AR 601-210. Waiver for formal training or ACASP criteria must be submitted to Cdr, USAAVNC, ATTN: ATZQ-AP, Ft Rucker, AL 36362 for approval.
