Military Vacations Hawaiian Style

One of the most sought after vacation destinations in the last several decades is the Hawaiian Islands.  The military resort at Hale Koa Hotel is one that is open to all military personnel, regardless of service, regardless of rank.

The hotel had its start as an Army Fort.  Fort DeRussy was transformed into what is now the Hale Koe Hotel in the 1970s.  A traditional Hawaiian ceremony opened the hotel in 1975.  The Hale Koa Hotel is also known as The House of the Warrior. Since its inception it has been a world-class resort and favored place for military Servicemembers to take rest and relaxation.

Its continued motto has been to operate a recreation facility and first class hotel at reasonable and affordable prices for Servicemembers and their families.  The Hotel at Hale Koa is a designated Armed Forces Recreation center, and along with Shades of Green resort at Walt Disney World are two of the finest locations offering reasonably priced vacations to military and military families.

The resort was expanded and remodeled in 1991, including adding an additional sixty-six acres to the original Fort Debussy site.  A new swimming pool, luau garden, snack bar and beverage area was added at that time.  In 1995 additional improvements continued with the brand new Maili Tower that arose beside the Ilima Tower on the hotel grounds. This brought the capacity of the resort to eight hundred seventeen guests from the previous four hundred nineteen limit. Also added in the 1995 construction were a fitness spa, and huge spacious twelve hundred spaces parking garage.  An adults only swimming center and new restaurant was also added at that time.  Room rates range from $83 dollars to $216 dollars a night at the hotel.

Over one million visitors come through the Hale Koa Armed Forces Recreation facility each year, and it is proud to be entirely self-supporting.  From the very first day, no taxpayer dollars have been used in its upkeep or operation.  It is a proud supporter and sponsor of our American Men and Women, and a wonderful vacation site open to all military personnel, and their families.

The facility itself is on a seventy-two acre oasis parcel on one of the finest stretches of beach in Waikiki. It is located about ten miles from the Honolulu International Airport. Schofield Barracks is about twenty-three miles from Hale Koa Resort.  Fort Shafter and Pearl Harbor are both about twelve miles from the facility, and so is Hickam Air Force Base. The Marine Corps Barracks at Kaneohe Bay is located about eighteen miles from the hotel grounds.
