1. Infantryman. It goes without saying that many people join the National Guard because they want to be part of the land combat force. Your main goal is to defend the country during times of peace, and battle with the enemy during times of war.

2. Avionic mechanic. Are you interested in aviation related careers? Do you have the desire to work with your hands? If so, you should consider becoming an avionic mechanic. Your main responsibility is to ensure that National Guard airplanes and helicopters receive proper maintenance and necessary repairs.

3. Dental specialist. Dental care is very important. This is provided to members of the National Guard all over the world. If you enjoy the medical field and want to prepare yourself for life as a dentist or dental assistant in the future, this is the job for you.

4. Military police. Crimes happen within the National Guard. Additionally, bases need police for security, traffic control, and many other tasks. If you are interested in an exciting career and plan on being a police officer in the future, a job in the military police makes perfect sense.

5. Cargo specialist. When members of the National Guard need equipment, supplies, and weapons they do not want to wait. Do you think it would be fun monitoring the transfer of cargo and passengers? This would be your job as a cargo specialist in the National Guard. Although it may not sound exciting, nothing is further from the truth. 6. Wheeled vehicle mechanic. Again, if you enjoy working with your hands the National Guard has a spot for you. As a wheeled vehicle mechanic your task is to repair and maintain heavy equipment and other types of automobiles such as trucks, cars, and Humvees. From the electrical system to the engine and much more, you are in charge of it all.

7. Information technology specialist. All divisions of the military rely heavily on computers. This may not have been the case in the past, but things have changed quite a bit over the past 10 to 15 years. As an information technology specialist you have the responsibility of maintaining computers, installing networks, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and much more. If you love computers you will love this job in the National Guard.

8. Technical engineer. More so today than ever before, people are interested in becoming engineers. There are many types of engineers in the National Guard, but technical engineers are on the rise. In this job, you will be an essential part of the building process. From site development to technical drawings to management, your job is to ensure a smooth build from start to finish.

If you have aspirations of becoming an engineer after your time in the Guard is complete, this career path will suit you well.

9. Paralegal specialist. There are many administrative jobs in the National Guard – this is just one of the more popular specialties. As a paralegal specialist you will spend your time assisting attorneys, judges and others with legal matters. From research to processing claims and preparing hearings, your job is full of legal related tasks.

This is one job specialty that will get you ready for a great career after your time in the National Guard is complete.

10. Interpreter. Among all the jobs listed here, this one is in high demand. In short, the National Guard needs people with great interpretation skills. If you are fluent in another language it is safe to say that you will fit in well. To show just how serious the National Guard is about this job, they pay a nice signing bonus along with expedited United States citizenship if needed.
