ASVAB Test Taking Tips

Are you getting ready to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Test (ASVAB)? If so, this is a big step in your life. It means that you are interested in joining the United States Military.

Although you may not be overly worried about the test and what it entails, there are a few things you can do to better your chance of obtaining a high score.

Practice Makes Perfect

Just like anything, the more you practice taking the ASVAB test the better off you are going to be. Did you know that you can take practice exams online, time and time again, until you are comfortable with the material? After you take a few tests, you will have a better idea of which areas you are strong in and which areas need some attention.

Study Leading up to your Test

Some people make the mistake of taking one practice test well in advance of the real thing. In turn, they forget everything they learned and struggle through the exam. Rather than make this mistake, slowly build up to the day that you are going to take the ASVAB. This way you are in the right frame of mind when it finally comes time for the test that matters.

Prepare your Body for the ASVAB

It is one thing to prepare your body physically to enter Military service. It is another thing entirely to mentally prepare for the ASVAB. Make sure you get a good night’s sleep and that you eat a healthy meal. Along with this, arrive at the testing center far enough in advance to the start time to ensure that you are comfortable and ready to do your best. If you find yourself rushing around you may be flustered as the test starts. And in this case, you may find it difficult to achieve the desired result.

Concentrate on the Task at Hand

If you are the type of person who is easily distracted, you need to learn to control this before you take the ASVAB. During your study sessions, make sure you are away from all distractions and focusing solely on the practice questions.

Be Ready for a Multiple Choice Test

Do you excel taking multiple choice tests? Have you struggled with these types of exams in the past? No matter your current position, there are tips you can follow to maximize your chance of success with multiple choice questions.

– Answer every question, even if you don’t know for sure if you are right. There is no penalty for guessing wrong, so you might as well give it a try.

– Eliminate answers that cannot possibly be right and then decide between those that are left. At the very least, this betters your chance of getting the answer right.

– Don’t waste too much time on one question. It is easy to get so caught up trying to find the right answer that you spend too much time, putting pressure on you as you move forward. If you are stumped, take a guess and then move on.

With these Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Test taking tips, you should be able to improve your chance of a score that you can be proud of.
