America, Politics, National Anthem & Unmasked Greed

We now live in a time where facts no longer matter, the National Anthem is disregarded by professional athletes in favor of announcing their own causes, politicians slander each other without pause and widows cling to politics and to a camera rather than family and personal time.

What’s going on in America today? What has changed over the last five, ten or forty years? Is hate bouncing from one generation or culture to another? If so, hate no matter how justified prevails at what costs?

Beware: Political Wolves In Sheep Clothing.

According to a Harvard study, major media outlets broadcasted 80% negative news on the Trump administration. More than doubled that of Obama. One poll had Trump’s negative news with one major broadcaster up to 93%. All during a time of the positive economic news, fledgling markets and lower unemployment. And I can’t even get 50% of my family to decide on what’s for dinner tonight. No matter on what side of the aisle you sit on, how can this be?

In today’s Wall Street Journal, check out ‘The FBI’s Political Meddling.’ This is a must-read. It appears corruption runs wild. Of course, this is not news in the world of politics. But what is staggering is that ultimately it will not matter. No matter how factual or devious, it will be ignored by many and denied by the guilty.

Can’t Always Teach an Old Dog New Tricks

I recall having a conversation with my heavily political biased grandfather more than forty years ago. He was praising a candidate running for Congress. He went on and on about all the great reasons he should be elected and how this man walked on water. I dared not to interrupt. After all, I dearly honored my time with my grandfather. When he finally finished, I asked him about this candidate’s criminal history and all the accusations. Without a mere blink, my grandfather responded, “son, they all do that.”

It was that moment, when I knew that it was hopeless. I would never convince him. In fact, I recently read a stat that 95% of all arguments, both sides walk away feeling unchanged.

America is rampantly growing with personal greed and the inability to forgive others, too high expectations on others all-the-while ignoring our own faults, striving to publicly condemn others and preferring what’s best for our own interest no matter how unfair for others. Don’t believe me, turn on any news station tonight.

Is it possible that we, Americans, are becoming a more hate-mongering people in a land where any personal accountability is foreign? If so, and I dare ask, where will that ultimately lead us?

Three-quarters of Americans profess to be Christian according to a 2015 News gallop poll. But few show it. What happened to treat others as yourself? Don’t let sin control the way you live? Encourage one another? Don’t just pretend to love others, really love them?

More to the point, in Galatians the part about following your sinful nature the results are clear which are hostility, quarreling, jealousy, selfish ambition, division to name a few.

After all, wasn’t it Martin Luther King, Jr., who said, “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” Politicians should be grabbing a Bible rather than a microphone to voice their petty angry slurs.

Just like I need to, right now.

Could not agree with you more. The further this nation “progresses” the further our moral, spiritual, and ethical character declines. Our free press no longer cares about ethical reporting, our pulpits are filling with pastors worried more about attendance than sharing the truth of the gospel, and our politicians have grown fat on the power granted to them by an electorate that no longer holds anyone accountable to their word.

What this nation needs more than anything is a good old fashion revival… a return to God

Excellent article. In fact I woke up this morning reading Mark 11, quite appropriate to what you wrote. I still opt to look glass half full rather half empty. There are many Americans feeling the way we feel and that is the strength we need to build up on. Again, thank you for writing this!

Awesome article. We encourage and ask our youth to strive for and be the best they can be, yet they turn on the TV or watch the internet and all they see are the so-called leaders of our great country acting like elementary school children fighting on the playground. We cannot expect to be a great nation again on our own power. We kick God out of our schools, our courts, our government and our sporting events yet we wonder where he is when crisis hits and struggles ensue. The basis of our struggle is self-inflicted by our own self-love and inability to look beyond ourselves. Once we become a nation focused on truly loving others and looking to meet their needs, then and only then will be become a great nation again.

A very timely article and hits to the core of America’s issues! For decades we seen and treated only the symptoms of our country’s problems but now we must face the reality, to improve our land we, WE, must change. We must discover what we have lost, and learn it is us, we the people are lost.

Thank you for speaking truth boldly!

Thank you for the post. I think that more of us need to be calling out our nation for the ways we debase each other and defame the American ideal. Over the course of our history we have made MANY mistakes, however, there was usually an effort to look out for the common good. We are a nation that has valued hearty debate but still chose to serve the poor and come to the aid of those in need. I hope that we heed the warning choose a different path.

Great points.

“By this everyone will know you are my disciples if you love one another.”

Love wins.

Thank you for calling us to more by sharing both truth and encouragement!

Great wisdom and accuracy in this article. We have too many that do not accept responsibility for their actions but rather blame society or others. The break down of the family is creating major issues for the nation.
Thank you for the boldness to speak the truth and not worry about being politically correct. We need more people not just speaking of their faith but intentionally living it out. May God bless this nation and our leaders.

Larry, Great article…TRUTH…it can be very disheartening and hopeless being a conservative Christian in today’s world…BUT God…it seems like the best thing to do is remain silent, because you are right, we cannot change people’s minds…even if we expose the lies with TRUTH…so what do we do? The time is no longer to remain silent as we have done too much in the past…the time is to be bold and courageous…speak TRUTH…gracefully, not in anger…listen to understand, but speak TRUTH…we will never be able to change people’s minds until God changes peoples hearts…arguments will not change people’s hearts…truth won’t do it…legislation absolutely won’t do it…only God…God is not going to throw this nation out with the bathwater…He founded it…there will be shaking but His nation will endure…May God bless America…

Well said. Hate is blinding and ignorance is not bliss. Though Truth may set you free and put you on the path in the right direction until we as a country decide to listen for it and look for it we are likely going to continue in the wrong direction as all the noise in the world drowns out wisdom keeping us so busy focusing on the petty things that we forget look at those things which are truly important.
