Dangerous Military Jobs That May Shock You

Military jobs all have an element of danger to them, even if it is a desk job at the Pentagon. However, there are still some jobs in the military that tend to be more dangerous than the rest. Here is a list of the five jobs (in no particular order) that are considered to be the most dangerous.

1. Motor Vehicle Operator

Recently, the job of driving a military truck has become the most dangerous one in the US military, taking into account the number of deaths that have occurred since the deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. You can get an idea how dangerous it is by the nicknames that it has earned by the infantry, “IED Magnet” and “88 Mistake” being two of them.

The job of a military motor vehicle operator is to transport soldiers and supplies (food and ammo) through and around the warzone, and more often than not, they are the target of enemy attacks, as cutting the line of supply is usually the way to dry out the opponent’s resources.

2. Special Operations

The US Army Special Operations Command includes both the 75th Ranger Regiment and the Special Forces, and each of these organizations deal with different kind of dangers. The Special Forces are highly trained combatants who are skilled to take care of highly specialized and direct missions, while the Rangers are the ones at the front lines in a war. They have plenty of military training and are taught to be steady and clear-headed in the face of extreme danger that lies with being the first to engage with the enemy.

3. Cavalry

The cavalry has to conduct recon and security missions, in which they have to locate the hostile units behind the enemy lines and relay their location. This is a dangerous job as you are cut off from friendly units and supply lines, and are basically on your own in enemy territory, with the risk of being found out looming overhead. 4. Infantry

Unsurprisingly, infantry is one of the most dangerous jobs in the military, and the numbers back us up. These troops have always had the highest number of casualties. With only the protection of Kevlar, helmet and prayers, you have to continuously engage with the enemy, and deal with extreme mental and physical exertions.

5. Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD) Pilot

SEAD pilots make the job a bit easier for the aviation as they act as bait and flush out the enemy position. As expected, the pilots are skilled in making split-second decisions as the job involves an insane amount of mental and physical agility, and only the very best are taken in.

As we have mentioned in the beginning, all military jobs are dangerous, and all require highly skilled individuals who are ready to put their lives on the line for their country. However, there is no other job that will give you more satisfaction and pride than serving your country when it most needs you.
